Story Telling
You guessed it. Today, you are going to spend some time on a SWOT analysis of your company or a specific project. A SWOT involves creating a 2×2 grid, so grab a piece of paper and follow these instructions:
- Draw a grid of four large boxes on your page, two on top and two on the bottom (like one big box divided in half both vertically and horizontally)
- Label the top left column Helpful and the top right column Harmful
- Label the top row Internal and the bottom row External
- Label the top left box Strengths and the bottom left box Opportunities
- Label the top right box Weaknesses and the bottom right box Threats
- Now, to perform your analysis think about your company or project – dig deep and use your widest perspective
- In the top left box list characteristics of your business or project that give it an advantage over others such as product or personnel
- In the top right box list characteristics of your business or project that place you at a disadvantage such as financing or distribution capabilities
- In the bottom left box list external factors that you can exploit to your advantage such as the availability of new technology or favorable legislation issues
- In the bottom right box list external factors in the environment that could cause trouble such as socio-cultural or competitive concerns
When you’re done with your SWOT analysis, record your strategies, thoughts, and plans in your journal.
Don’t forget to click the mark complete button when you have finished completing your journal.
