Story Telling
Before he was vilified for his use of performance-enhancing drugs, San Francisco Giant, Barry Bonds said, “Everyone in society should be a role model, not only for their own self-respect but for respect from others.” Before his public fiasco, pro golfer Tiger Woods is quoted as saying, “If you are given a chance to be a role model, I think you should always take it because you can influence a person’s life in a positive light, and that’s what I want to do. That’s what it’s all about.” Perhaps these are unfortunate examples, but the sentiment is valid. For today’s exercise, evaluate your opportunities to be a role model for your co-workers. Ask yourself, how can I use my success to motivate and transform others? Remember not to boast or grandstand your achievements, but to make them seem accessible to your associates. Journal your thoughts, actions, and plans.
