For every person who has succeeded, we have another definition of success. For every individual still striving to achieve, there exists another image of success. Success is a paradox. It can be easily achieved but only with tremendous commitment.
The core to success is energy, focus, attention, care and daily practice. It’s practice. It’s training. It’s getting in a positive routine and staying there. It’s being prepared when the right opportunity arrives. It has been said many times that winners do the things that failures don’t like to do. Success is born of daily habits, winning habits.
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to success is more important than any other one thing.
– Abraham Lincoln
Rather than focus on some grand pie in the sky, let’s start by focusing on the little things, the many successful accomplishments we have achieved over the course of our lifetimes. Most of us are so concerned with moving through the day-to-day motions that we lose sight of our progress on the journey.
EXERCISE
With a piece of paper turned lengthwise, you’re going to plot out your life up to this point. Rate events, growth, important moments and setbacks. Make a line across the middle of the page. This is your baseline, your normal state of mind when things are just OK. Not really good. Not so bad. Now, rate the events from minus ten to ten. The most brilliant memory you have in your head is a ten, straight up to the top of the page. The worst thing to ever happen is a negative ten, straight down to the bottom. The trick here is to start from the day you were born. So much of what we have accomplished, we take for granted.
What many of us tend to see as we progress through life is that, except for a few spikes here and there, many of the high points seem to be behind us. Why is it that our best years, the ones of self-discovery and incredible accomplishment are fading into the past? If you are flat-lining in life, it is time to change, time to make the bold move that will put you back on a winning streak.
Big shots are only little shots who keep shooting.
-Christopher Morley
Start right now by creating a vibration of success for yourself.
EXERCISE
Begin by listing the variety of ways you are successful. What have you accomplished that makes you proud? What are you working toward that’s admirable? Describe your best qualities. What are you good at doing?
Remember, everything counts. Do you play a musical instrument? Are you a stylish dresser? Good at telling jokes? Do you meet people easily? Too often we overlook our positive points, our successes, and focus only on the things we want to change. Right now, we’re concentrating only on your good qualities. So go ahead, write them down in the box.
Now read what you have written aloud. Take the time to read each line carefully. Give full meaning to each accomplishment. Make the effort to feel good about yourself. Let the flood of positive feelings surround you and create that all-important success vibration.
Think about this list. Now, take out your journal and write down of all the reasons that you’re sure, absolutely certain, that you will succeed at your goals. Refer to the list every day. Know your strengths and be very aware of them. Successful people take on an aura of success. Do this each day and you too will start to attain a stature that conveys that commanding success vibration.
The conspicuously successful are often just people on a winning streak. It’s time to put together a winning streak of your own. Create a game you know you can win. You will begin to build momentum. See how far you can take it. Your winning streak can last a few minutes or it can last a lifetime. Again, it’s entirely up to you.
